4- EKG Technician
EKG Technicians work directly with patients and can provide valuable information to Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants. These technicians place electrodes on the patient's body which records the activity of the heart. Knowing the patient's cardiac activity is very important to healthcare providers. An Electrocardiogram (EKG) provides doctors with a framework on how to proceed with care by ruling out several possibilities. EKG Technicians have many career advancement opportunities. Some advancement opportunities include becoming a Telemetry Technicians or a Cardiac Arrthymia Technician. These two positions will allow the technician to interpret the EKG graphs and provide reports to physicians and other care providers.

3- Patient Care Technician
Patient Care Technicians mainly work in hospitals however, they can be found in other healthcare facilities. Patient Care Technicians in hospitals can be found in many departments. This position can also go by the name Emergency Room Technician. The responsibilities of PCT's or ERT's include blood draws, EKGs, patient transfers and general patient care. You can easily earn a living working as a patient care technician or you can use this as a stepping stone in your path in a healthcare career.

2- Medical Assistant
Medical Assistants have a very wide range of selection when it comes to the environment they wish to work in. For example, Medical Assistants can work for a doctor of any practice. This can give you exposure to all the specialties of medicine. MA's can even choose between working in a hospital setting, a doctor's office, or a medical outpatient care facility. Medical Assistants have a vast skill set. These include clinical skills such as phlebotomy procedures, EKG procedures and administrative skills such as medical billing and coding, creating and updating patient charts, and scheduling appointments.

1- Surgical Technicians
Surgical Technicians are a vital part of any surgical team. Surgeries can be performed for a variety of reasons. Some could be in an emergency setting with gunshot wounds, injuries from car accidents or in planned situations such an open heart surgery or gastric bypass. Surgical Technicians are essentially are another set of eyes for a surgeon. There are several very important things that need to be accounted for during the procedure that the surgeon can not do by themselves. An example of this would be keeping track of each piece of equipment used in the surgery in addition to sterilizing the equipment properly. Oddly enough a vast majority of complications that are associated surgeries are caused by equipment being left inside a patient. Sounds bizarre but it's true. Surgical Technicians hands equipment off to the surgeon and keeps tabs of what has been used and what has been returned. Everyone in a surgical room has a role. Surgical Technicians help avoid life-threatening post-procedure complications for patients.
